Business Owners Can Easily Start a Podcast from Scratch – If They Have the Right Team

Many entrepreneurs are known for being visionaries. They have unique and compelling insights to share with the world, and creating a podcast is a great way to do that while building an audience for your business.

Not only has podcast listenership grown rapidly from 17% of the U.S. population in 2015 listening to podcasts to now 55% in 2025 – podcasts also do an excellent job targeting niche audiences that are interested in specific topics.

Often, though, I hear entrepreneurs share their interest in starting a podcast – but they stop themselves from moving forward because they don’t know how to start one.

I can understand this challenge as someone who just launched a podcast within the last year – Great Talent, Great Business. We just completed our second season, and I’m really thrilled with the way everything came together.

But what I’d challenge you with is that the “how” of starting your own podcast as an entrepreneur is not really the question you should be asking. Rather, as Dan Sullivan challenges in his book Who Not How,  the process is not yours to figure out. What you should be doing is putting the right people in place to accomplish your vision.

Call on the Experts

Remember on the show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire when the contestant would be backed into a corner, completely clueless about the answer to the question in front of them – but they could use a lifeline and phone a friend?

Today, we all do that too little. With the internet and AI at our fingertips, we’re slow to reach out to someone and ask for help. When you rely only on the internet and AI, you’re only getting access to the same information that everyone else has. That’s not going to give you a competitive advantage.

However, when you reach out to friends and colleagues – and even hire consultants who are experts in their field – you get unique perspectives, experiences and “do’s and don’ts” that you won’t find online.

One step I took when starting the podcast was to hire an expert, Paul Colligan with The Podcast Partnership, to share his expertise and knowledge with me and my team. That easily put me 10 steps ahead of the average business owner starting a podcast.

Through this relationship, we gained insight into processes like recording, hosting, and multi-platform syndication that we wouldn’t have had access to otherwise.

Build a Strong, Versatile Support Team

Notice above that I didn’t just say that Paul shared insights with “me.” I said that he shared those insights “with me and my team.”

Too often, entrepreneurs have an “I’ll figure it out myself” mentality. If you haven’t faced the harsh reality of it yet – that mindset will keep you stuck and limit your potential.

Instead, I prefer to bring in the people who can help me accomplish my vision. As with many of my one-off projects, my executive assistant Sergio stepped in to help get this project off the ground. With prior experience editing videos for us at WorkBetterNow, he has been able to expand on that skill by handling the editing for each podcast episode. Further, as the owner of my calendar and my inbox, Sergio is best suited to schedule guest interviews and coordinate communication with those guests before and after the recordings.

Further, our marketing team has had the opportunity to upskill through this process – adding new capabilities to their roles and stepping confidently into podcast production. By training with Paul and seeking outside sources for support, they’ve grown far beyond their original job descriptions.

Just a year ago, podcasting wasn’t even on their radar. Today, they assist Sergio with post-production editing, handle uploads and distribution, and promote each episode week by week.

While I stay involved in the strategy and interviews, the rest – the research, scheduling, prep, production, and publishing – is all handled by the team. Without that structure, it would take too much time for me to do the podcast while maintaining all of my other responsibilities.

Stop Asking “How?” Start Asking “Who?”

If you're a business owner with a clear message, podcasting can be one of the most powerful tools in your arsenal. But don’t let the mechanics of launching a show stop you in your tracks.

The truth is, the "how" is rarely the real barrier – it's the lack of the right “who.” A high-performing team can bring your vision to life faster, better, and with far less friction than trying to DIY it.

If you’re ready to bring your next big idea to life – whether it’s a podcast or any other business initiative – WorkBetterNow can connect you with full-time, professional nearshore team members who are ready to help you execute.

Schedule a consult and discover how hiring the right people can help you accomplish your vision faster than you ever thought possible.
